IMPLEMENTATION OF THE POLICY ON DISTANCE LEARNING IN ENUGU STATE: A FOCUS ON THE AVAILABILITY OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

Abstract


This study investigated the implementation of the policy on distance learning in Enugu State with particular reference to the availability of instructional materials. One research question guided the study. A checklist titled observation checklist with 25 items was used for data collection. This was validated by three experts from the faculty of Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The reliability test yielded reliability coefficient of 0.71 established using inter - rater. Five (5) copies of the inst rument properly filled administered through direct observation at the five National teachers Institute distance learning centers in Enugu State were used for the study. Data collected were analysed using frequency and percentage. The finding of the study s howed that most of the instructional materials are available. However, the study equally revealed that chemicals, reagents for science practical as well as science kits among a few others were not available for the implementation of distance learning polic y. Based on the findings, it was recommended that the m a n a g e m e n t, c e n t e r m a n a g e r s a n d s u p e r vi s o r s o f t h e c e n t e r s s h o uld e x plo r e avenues to raise funds in order to procure the materials that were not available so t h a t t h e i m ple m e n t a t i o n o f t h e p oli c y o n d i s t a n t l e a r ni n g c o uld b e h oli s t i c i n achieving the objectives of the policy
