TIME IN AFRICAN ONTOLOGY

KANU Ikechukwu Anthony

Abstract

There are different conceptions of time, right from the ancient, through the medieval and modern periods in the history of western thought. However, in this piece, the researcher has studied the dimensions of the African concept of time as given by Mbiti, and the consequences of such concept of time. While the researcher agrees that Mbiti’s African concept of time might have been hastily generalized as the African concept of time, again it cannot be denied that the consequences of holding such a concept of time is very much evident in virtually all the African countries as regards underdevelopment. The researcher believes that changing such a mentality regarding time by Africans would help the development of Africa.
